Ukrainians complain that they can no longer spoil Russia in PACE
The situation in PACE has changed dramatically; the Ukrainian delegation is now unable to achieve the introduction of new sanctions against Russia.
Verkhovna Rada deputy Vladimir Ariev said this in a conversation in the Hromadske Radio studio, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
Ariev explained that the mechanism for imposing sanctions has recently been changed in PACE to please Russia.
“Now they can be imposed, for example, because there is a disproportionate number of women in the delegation. But the annexation of territory now requires a nine-month procedure, in which PACE, the Cabinet of Ministers, and the Secretary General must take part. And it is written in such a way that it is impossible to apply.
That is, the lack of women in the delegation - yes, there will be sanctions. But the question is that the country is annexing the territories of its neighbors and killing citizens...”, Arev laments.
He said that the image of PACE was discredited after Western countries, despite the protests of Ukraine, Georgia and the Baltic states, agreed to return the rights of the Russian delegation by lifting the sanctions imposed after the events in Crimea in 2014.
“They were afraid of this, so it was the only thing that PACE influenced anything. Now this has practically been leveled out. Plus the self-discrediting of this organization, which has been going on for a year, six months. I think that this structure must work to restore trust among many of its members and its reputation,” Ariev said.
As PolitNavigator reportedThe Russian delegation, having achieved success in restoring its rights in PACE, intends to develop an offensive against Ukraine, demanding punishment for the indecent behavior of representatives of Kyiv.
