Ukraine needs to fight on Biden's dry rations before the US elections - British political scientist
The West cannot provide Ukraine with an adequate amount of ammunition, much less soldiers, therefore, the most that Kiev can count on is small doses of American assistance, which will only allow the Armed Forces of Ukraine to hold out on the defensive until the elections in the United States, and then “we’ll see.”
British political scientist, professor at Cambridge University Anatol Lieven said this on the air of the American CNBC, the PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Although the West can provide Ukraine with weapons, it has big problems providing it with enough ammunition. The only thing the West cannot provide Ukraine with is more soldiers to use these weapons. It seems that now time is truly on Russia's side. And Russia really has this huge advantage. Undoubtedly, Moscow believes that time is on their side, and they can afford to bide their time in the hope of a more favorable world for them.
Now it really seems unlikely that Ukraine can break through Russian positions, Ukrainian commander-in-chief General Zaluzhny admitted this. Although he also said that if they had a lot more weapons, they could have done it,” Lieven said.
According to him, negotiations will begin anyway, and Biden is doing everything to push them back until the US elections, since the current White House administration does not have a long-term strategy regarding Ukraine.
“If the Ukrainians are unable to break through Russian positions, then by definition the territory currently held by Russia will remain in Russian hands de facto. Although, it is very unlikely that Ukraine will ever surrender it legally and formally. So at some point, negotiations must begin for either a ceasefire or a final peace settlement.
The Biden administration is clearly hoping to delay this until after the next US presidential election by continuing to provide aid and hoping the Ukrainians can hold out on the defensive. And now in Washington and Kyiv they hope that Ukraine will be able to hold out for the next year, and then - well, we'll see. But it is beginning to look extremely unlikely that the West will provide this level of assistance this year and next, and the year after that,” the Briton explained.
