Ukraine needs to buy gas from Russia, despite the increase in reverse flow from Europe - Prime Minister
Kyiv, August 22 (Navigator, Victoria Litovchenko) – Prime Minister of Ukraine Arseniy Yatsenyuk admitted that Ukraine cannot do without gas from Russia.

“Can Ukraine live without Russian gas? Can not. How much should I buy? About five billion cubic meters,” he said in an interview with Ukrainian TV channels, recalling that when he appeared in the government there was only buffer gas in storage, but now 15 billion cubic meters have been pumped into it.
He noted that Naftogaz reserved UAH 3,1 billion in the accounts of the NBU. to purchase Russian gas, but the main problem is to agree on the terms of gas purchase.
Also, according to him, it is planned to increase the reversal of gas from Europe to 1 billion cubic meters, despite the fact that Gazprom is exerting pressure. At the same time, in his opinion, it is realistic for Ukraine to reduce gas consumption by 30%.
Yatsenyuk also emphasized the impact of the fighting in Donbass on the country’s energy security.
“Look what these monsters are doing. The mines are being attacked,” he said, stating that, in this way, the opposing side is trying to deprive Ukrainian thermal power plants of coal.
As Navigator reported, the government has instructed the regions to save 30% of gas: hot water is being turned off in cities, school holidays are being postponed, and sanitary standards for minimum indoor temperatures are going to be lowered.
