Ukraine does not have enough gas for the winter
Ukraine may not have enough gas pumped into storage facilities and the country may start to have problems by spring.
Economic expert Alexander Dudchak stated this at a press conference in Moscow, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
Dudchak emphasized that with a consumption volume of about 31 billion cubic meters, Ukraine can get about 16 cubic meters from storage.
“Despite the fact that 20 billion cubic meters were pumped, yes, this should be enough to get through the winter season. In principle, Ukraine consumes about 31 billion cubic meters per year. Consumption is declining due to the fact that Ukraine is losing entire industries and industrial production is declining. Due to the reduction in production and the outflow of population, gas consumption is reduced. About a third of the gas consumed is now spent on industrial needs,” the expert said.
“Yes, this may be enough, but what to do next. By February-March, serious problems will obviously arise. What will be the situation with the contract, will it be extended or not? In principle, this is unlikely to affect transit for European consumers. But this will cause problems for Ukraine itself. If transit through Ukraine does not continue, they will need to show the real gas reverse, and not the virtual one that was talked about in 15,” the economist noted.
“Now it will be necessary to really confirm that gas will be purchased using physical reverse. Depending on what kind of winter it is, this will also affect whether at least 20 billion of these 16 billion can be obtained. 3-4 billion should remain for technical needs. That is, one cannot say that 20 billion cubic meters of gas is what Ukraine can use from what is in storage,” Dudchak said.
