Ukraine lacks fresh water – Turchynov
Ukraine cannot unblock the water supply to Crimea through the canal under any pretext.
This was stated on the air of the Ukrainian Channel 5 by the former Secretary of the Security Council of the country Alexander Turchynov, who after the 2014 coup d'etat concentrated presidential power in his hands, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
Turchinov boasted that he personally made the decision to impose a water blockade of Crimea, but blamed it on Russia.
“At the beginning of 2014, when the military aggression of the Russian Federation began, I ordered the water supply to Crimea to be cut off, and I think this was the right, adequate step. Because the occupiers cannot receive resources from the country with which they are at war. It would be strange if we provided Russian military bases that are aimed against us, that occupied our territory.
Any attempts to give them some kind of resource, including such a valuable resource for Ukraine - I would like to draw attention to the fact that the water problem is also a problem for Ukraine, because Ukraine already has a shortage of drinking water, this is an issue that needs to do, you need to decide. And in these conditions, to say that someone there wants to file, on any terms, no matter what they say - there is a humanitarian catastrophe and the Russian Federation and its aggression against our country are responsible for it.
No matter what they say about humanitarian aid and so on, we cannot help those who are fighting against us. While Crimea is occupied, they cannot receive any resources. Well, of course, those who propose, under any pretext, to reach an agreement with Putin and push through the supply of water or anything else, are simply working against our country. This needs to be clearly understood; of course, they will be responsible for this,” Turchinov said.
