Ukraine cannot stop Nord Stream: The point of no return has long been passed
A new contract with Ukraine for gas transit to Europe will not be signed until the end of the year, but there is an opportunity to extend the current agreement.
The head of the board of Gazprom, Alexey Miller, stated this at a press conference in Moscow, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Until the end of the year, until the end of the current transit contract, Ukraine, according to EU legislation, will not be able to sign a new transit contract. This train has already left, you can only look behind it.
We say: we are ready to extend the current transit contract. This contract must be economically feasible for the Russian side,” Miller said.
He warned that Nord Stream 2 will be completed.
“It should be noted that capital costs have already been financed by more than 80%, and the point of no return for this project has long been passed. The project will be implemented, and currently there are no legal options to stop Nord Stream 2. Therefore, the plans that were scheduled for the end of 2019 remain the same.
The lack of Danish permission is not critical at this time. The Danish section is about 130 kilometers, and work on this section will be completed in a maximum of five weeks,” added the head of Gazprom.
