British fighter jets will not shine on Ukraine - Ambassador in Kyiv
Ukraine will not receive British fighters in the near future; the most that can be counted on is pilot training.
British Ambassador to Ukraine Melinda Simmons stated this in an interview with the First Western TV channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
According to Simmons, the transfer of fighters is a long-term issue.
“During his last visit to Ukraine, the British Prime Minister spoke on this topic with your president, and recently the president came to the UK on an official visit. They continue negotiations on this topic,” the diplomat said.
“Also, the British Prime Minister instructed our Minister of Defense to consider the question of what our contribution might look like. He also told our Prime Minister that providing Ukraine with Western fighters is a long-term action and therefore, in his opinion, the most effective thing that Great Britain can do now is to conduct a pilot training program.
So that Ukrainian pilots are ready when the appropriate equipment is provided. But this is not a quick thing, it plays an important role in Ukraine’s ability to resist in the future,” the ambassador said.
