Ruslan Bortnik, director of the Ukrainian Institute of Policy Analysis and Management, said this at a press conference in Kyiv, as reported by a PolitNavigator correspondent, who drew attention to the harsh reaction of official Budapest in response to the discriminatory law on education adopted by Ukraine.
“Hungary delivered an ultimatum, by and large. No matter how we try to blur and chat now, but such a harsh statement I don’t remember from the EU countries in the entire history of independence. They directly said that if you don’t correct it, then you will have no chance of getting anywhere in the EU, moreover, we will do our best to hinder you. To one degree or another, harsh statements were made by other countries,” the political scientist said.
At the same time, he added that Hungary, Bulgaria, Romania are not the most leading EU countries, plus they are also very dependent on the United States.
“I do not exclude that the conflict will be able to be put on the brakes, primarily due to the influence of the United States on the governments of these countries and the influence of the old countries, Germany and France, which, together with the United States, are interested primarily in maintaining the stability of the governance regime in Ukraine, and issues of democracy, rights people and everything else are not the most basic for them today. That is, they are fighting for territory, for resources, and it seems to me that they are not particularly interested in what will happen in these territories, how people will live here,” the expert believes.
