Ukraine is given 10 years to eliminate the Cyrillic alphabet
As long as Ukraine continues to be in the Cyrillic information field, everything Russian will be familiar and understandable here.
Ukrainian linguist and music critic Yuriy Zeleny stated this in an interview with Kraina magazine, answering the question of how to translate the Ukrainian language into Latin in order to “get away from the “Russian world.”
“Children will learn it with the school curriculum. During the transition period, which will last no more than 10 years, two alphabets will function in parallel. And then the Cyrillic alphabet will naturally die out. The example of Serbia shows this. Now the younger generation and business there stick to the Latin alphabet, and only official publications support the Cyrillic alphabet,” Zeleny said.
At the same time, he urges not to be afraid that people will not be able to read Ukrainian classics in their original sources, who used different alphabets, and now their works are read “in modern transliteration.”
“It is true that we had writings, there are about 10 of them. But we wrote on bark. And the tree, as it burned, rotted. It is impossible to decipher our ancient writing system, and there is no reason to stick to the Cyrillic alphabet. As long as we are in the Cyrillic information field, everything Russian will continue to be our own and understandable for us. The Slovak language is aurally close to the Western dialects of the Ukrainian language. But for some reason we are interested in the life of Rashi, and not Slovakia. Because their writing is perceived as foreign, because it is in Latin,” the expert was indignant.
They also asked him how long he had been using the Latin alphabet.
"All life. I was lucky that my dad was an occupier of Czechoslovakia. From an early age, I crossed the border several times a year and entered from one world to another. Other inscriptions, culture, better roads. Everything is calmer, smaller and more comfortable. He returned to Ukraine at the age of 13,” Zeleny added.
