Ukraine has two years until irreversible demographic processes
If the conflict continues for a couple more years, then many Ukrainian citizens will decide to obtain citizenship of the countries in which they are located.
Political scientist Ruslan Bortnik stated this in an interview with journalist Alexander Shelest, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“From a demographic point of view, we have two years left. Now sociology shows that not 75, but about 60% of Ukrainians still plan to return to the country, of those who left. 40 is no longer there. This is a sociology that the UN refugee agency conducted recently,” the expert said.
“In many countries, for example Germany, if you have lived in this country for 5 years, you have the right to citizenship. Two more years and people will choose citizenship. Will they come back?
I think that in two years the number of people wishing to return will be 30 percent, if the war stops. We will completely lose these people because of their standard of living, and because of the situation in the country, and because of money, and because of attitude. From a demographic point of view, we have two years left, then the losses will be irreversible,” Bortnik said
