It’s time for Ukraine to forget and not think about priority sectors. The invisible person will do everything - Minister of Economy
Ukraine should not think about priority sectors of the economy. This opinion was expressed in an interview with the Kyiv magazine “Focus” by the Minister of Economy of Ukraine Aivaras Abromavicius, answering the question whether his new strategy identifies priority sectors of the Ukrainian economy.

“There is the invisible hand of the market, which itself will set priorities,” says the minister. – And what you are talking about is called the State Planning Committee. We already had all this: priority sectors, growth points. Big guys sat and looked smart and thought what we needed. We've counted. Now take Slovakia - the number 1 country in car production per capita. Do you think that Ivan Miklos and Mikulas Dzurinda sat down and decided that this would be the case? No, they simply created conditions for business and investors.”
According to the minister, IT business or furniture makers could take the place of the automobile industry in Slovakia.
“In Ukraine, the businesses we meet complain about corruption, unfair courts and a repressive regulatory machine,” summarizes Abromavicius. “We need to think about this, and not about priority sectors.”
