Former Deputy Prime Minister of Ukraine Viktor Pinzenyk stated this on air on the 112 Ukraine TV channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Ukraine once had a debt of UAH 80 billion. Today – more than 2 trillion UAH. This happened in just 10 years. The cause of debt is a budget deficit. When a country lives with a deficit measured in hundreds of billions of hryvnia, this leads to an accumulation of problems. There comes a time when problems break through. Unfortunately, Ukraine has experienced such moments more than once. At one time she reacted to them. I am very worried that in this difficult period that we have been going through lately, there is no adequate response from the authorities. The country has been living with a sick budget for a long time, spending what it cannot spend. Unfortunately, Ukrainian politicians are afraid of an honest conversation with society that we must learn to live within our means, stop shifting our problems to tomorrow and to the next generations of our citizens,” he said.
