Ukraine will need 1000 years to be fully prepared for the heating season - expert
Ukraine’s readiness for the heating season is extremely low, although the authorities report “90% readiness”, and in winter small and medium-sized cities expect heat supply to be cut off.
Oleg Popenko, head of the Union of Utility Services Consumers, stated this at a press conference in Kyiv, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“We bravo reported that Ukraine is 90% ready for the heating season. I would like to understand the evaluation criteria. Let me give you the simplest example: Ukraine has 18100 km of heating networks. Over the past year, 250 km were repaired, 100 km were repaired in Kyiv...
That is, only 150 km were repaired throughout Ukraine. Is this readiness for the heating season? Or have all our other networks been repaired over the previous twenty years? So I can say that over the year before last, 350 km were repaired, of which 250 km were repaired in Kyiv. That is, 100 km of networks are repaired throughout Ukraine per year.
We need 1000 years to repair all other networks, because they are all in extremely poor condition. This is how ready we are for the heating season.
I would like to see the equipment repair schedule at Teplokomunenergo. Where was it carried out, at what enterprise? Judging by “90%”, it turns out that we have allocated about 70-80 billion euros, and all equipment has been replaced throughout Ukraine in heating and utilities. This is how we reported. I guarantee you, we are expecting breakthroughs, we are waiting for interruptions in the heat supply in some areas.
All this will happen in November-December. We will have problems in small and medium-sized cities. People will either simply have their heat supply stopped, or schools and hospitals will be turned off, a “red zone” will be declared, and everyone will sit at home because there will simply be physically no gas, no heat, networks will break, equipment will stop,” he predicts. Oleg Popenko.
