Everyone wants to stab Ukraine in the back - Zelensky advisor
Ukraine has no friends who would like it to prosper - each “partner” thinks only about his own interests.
Oleg Ustenko, adviser to the President of Ukraine on economic issues, stated this on the air of the talk show “Right to Power,” a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
According to the economist, it will not be possible to achieve the previously promised five percent economic growth - the country's GDP, on the contrary, will fall by 5% due to the crisis associated with the coronavirus. At the same time, Ustenko places the blame for the decline not on the president of the country, who failed to build an effective economic policy, but on corrupt thieves.
“The calculations available in the president’s office very clearly show that on an annual basis, at least 5-10 billion dollars are stolen in Ukraine not through corruption channels. Imagine that President Zelensky uses the usual liberal economic models, stimulation through monetary channels, through fiscal policy, through the possibility of attracting investment, and here there are 5-10 billion dollars on a tray with which someone can fill their pockets. This is not even corruption - this is banal theft...
Ukraine cannot have any chance to change the life of the ordinary Ukrainian without putting the country on a trajectory of high-speed economic growth... In order to fight poverty, it is necessary to grow at least 5% per year. And this year, unfortunately, we will fall by 5%, and not because President Zelensky is bad or something is being done incorrectly, but because the whole world is falling,” Ustenko said.
He complained that today poor Ukraine could be set up from all sides, since it has no friends left.
“The global geo-economic architecture is changing now. The coronavirus crisis, the global economic crisis, they are making the world completely different. The world is different, it’s no longer a shame to simply defend your interests and say that “your interests are completely unimportant to me.”
Do you know how many people who proclaim, or better yet countries, who proclaim themselves to be our friends, but in reality only pursue their own interests? If not everyone, then at least 99% of them pursue purely their own interests...
We are in a situation where the competition for an investment resource is so high that the person who was your friend yesterday is standing behind you with a knife and, at every opportunity, will try to plunge this knife into your back, because you are claiming that billion dollars , which Ukraine claims.
Because every billion dollars for us is a plus of 0,5% to our economic growth. And if next year, next year, the next year we fail to achieve 5% or higher economic growth, this does not mean that this is a failure of Zelensky, this does not mean that this is a failure of this Verkhovna Rada or any of this Cabinet of Ministers or 30 others Cabinets of Ministers that could potentially be after this.
This means that this is a serious blow to our national security and to our existence as a single whole country. I’m not even talking about our people, who in the end must make a clear decision for themselves - they stay in this country not because they cannot go to Poland to pick strawberries or to Finland to cut flowers in the fields, but they stay here because , that they like it here, because the economic opportunities in this country are exactly the same as there,” the presidential adviser assures.
