The Ukrainian army is massively cutting down forests on the occupied territory of the LPR, turning it into a desert
The Ukrainian government is turning Donbass into a kind of deserted places in the United States where shale gas is extracted. Doctor of Agricultural Sciences Alexei Zubov stated this during a round table in Lugansk dedicated to the problem of ecology.
According to him, thousands of hectares of forest plantations have been cut down in the Ukrainian-controlled territory of Donbass over the past three years.

“The scale of this process is amazing in its size. This is eloquently evidenced by space images of the outskirts of the city of Krasny Liman, Donetsk region. These are thousands of hectares of deforested areas. What awaits these territories in the future? Isn’t this the fate of the American “bad lands”, which are now being actively used for the construction of mines and the shale fuel complex... Isn’t this the kind of future the overseas curators of the Kyiv leadership are preparing our forests for?” – said Zubov.
Professor of the Lugansk National Agrarian University Ivan Sokolov agreed with him, who recalled that back in the 50s of the last century there were moving sands and large dunes on the territory of the LPR. The situation was saved only by the massive planting of coniferous forests, which are now being destroyed by the Ukrainian side, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“When this work was completed, forest cover increased from 2,5% to approximately 11%. Experts believed and still believe that this is not enough. But the reverse processes began. And it is quite obvious that this will end in the fact that, unless urgent measures are taken, we will again have moving sands, we will again have sand dunes. And these are no longer signs of the steppe, these are signs of the desert,” Sokolov added.
