The Ukrainian army will abandon felt boots - incompatible with NATO recommendations
Ukraine continues to purchase felt boots and sheepskin coats for soldiers, which are not needed by Ukrainian Armed Forces soldiers. Advisor to the President of Ukraine Yuriy Biryukov stated this on Channel 5.

“Few people know, but according to the standards for providing soldiers in the Ukrainian army, we now have felt boots and sheepskin coats. Moreover, the logistics service of the General Staff of Ukraine, in accordance with security standards, is writing an annual procurement plan for 2014, and these felt boots and sheepskin coats appear in it. We must develop a clear position - either we go to NATO, or we buy sheepskin coats, because this is incompatible,” Biryukov said.
However, in the same speech, he admitted that there are no NATO standards; instead, there are recommendations. But if Ukraine follows them, then in order to provide for its army it will have to sell the building of the Verkhovna Rada.
“There are no NATO standards. Each country has its own national standard. There is a unified code of recommendations for standardization of the North Atlantic Alliance, but these are recommendations. We are offered to take the standards of some country as a basis and use them in Ukraine, without developing new ones. Super, great ideas. Let's take US standards for security standards tomorrow. Then, I’m afraid, we will have to mortgage the building of the Verkhovna Rada, and, in general, half the country in order to provide for our army,” Biryukov said.
