Ukrainian blockade hits Crimean farmers
Crimea may be left without 30% of the harvest due to a sharp rise in prices for fertilizers and their shortage on the peninsula. The Crimean Telegraph newspaper reports this.

In 2015, prices for mineral fertilizers increased by 158%, which neither the authorities nor the farmers were prepared for.
“Last year we took a number of measures to resolve this issue. But now we do not have the opportunity for enterprises on the mainland and local ones to supply fertilizers with deferred payment,” said the Minister of Agriculture of the Republic Vitaly Polishchuk.
In addition, due to the blockade of the peninsula by Ukraine, the load on the Kerch ferry crossing, through which food is carried as a priority, has increased significantly. At the same time, mineral fertilizers did not reach the cargo in the first place and “went to the side.”
“As a result, the Kirov, Dzhankoy, and Belogorsky districts did not purchase the required amount of mineral fertilizers. And this, meanwhile, threatens the loss of 30 percent of the harvest,” the publication notes.
