Member of the Ukrainian delegation to PACE, people's deputy from the BPP Alexey Goncharenko said this in an interview with Ukrinform.

“We protest against the participation of Kosachev, who is under sanctions, in the meeting of the ad hoc committee. I stated this in the session hall, and we also declare this position in political groups,” Goncharenko said.

He noted that in December, for this reason, Kosachev was removed from the meeting of the PACE political committee, which was held in Paris.

“In Paris, where meetings of the presidential and political committees were held in December, we ensured that Kosachev left the meeting, since he was not properly invited to it and is also under sanctions,” said the people’s deputy, who is a member of the political committee .

In his opinion, this situation indicates Moscow’s continuation of “provocative policies in the Council of Europe.”

“On the Russian side this is a provocative line. They do not recognize sanctions as such and do not recognize that Kosachev is under sanctions. He is the head of the international committee, who else to send if not the head of the international committee. That is, there is no provocation associated with the surname Kosachev, but in general their behavior is provocative and boorish. We all understand what they are doing,” Goncharenko said.

At the same time, the deputy now sees no reason to consider the newly elected PACE President Michele Nicoletti a lobbyist for Russian interests.

“Today this is an exaggeration. It is more advisable to enter into a dialogue with him than to enter into conflict. It will be another matter if the ad hoc committee makes recommendations for the return of the Russian delegation, and Nicoletti supports this. Of course, this will be work already open for them and we will react to this as sharply and harshly as possible,” Goncharenko said.

Tomorrow, January 23, PACE is planning a meeting of the ad-hoc committee, at which they intend to consider the possibility of Russians returning to PACE. It is expected that representatives of the Russian Parliament will be present at the meeting.
