Ukrainian diplomacy calls for subversive work against Belarus
Ukraine must shake up the situation in Belarus through the influence of its special services on the regional pro-Western elites in the republic and local businessmen.
Former Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Pavel Klimkin stated this on the Ukraine 24 TV channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
According to Klimkin, at the same time, Ukraine must coordinate its every action with the West.
“Mediation, of course, won’t work there - we saw what Lukashenko is like, pulling BMPs into the streets. I believe that our role should not be in mediating between Lukashenko and the protesters, but in influencing those - we have it, they say that diplomats are watching, but in fact the intelligence services are also monitoring. In fact, we have a lot of contacts there both among the security forces and among the regional elites.
By the way, you know that in Belarus the Minsk elite is not the most influential - there are Vitebsk and Grodno. Work with business, a lot of business connections. All this should not happen publicly - we shouldn’t tell. This is where we must influence, and influence on the basis of a very clear position, agreed upon literally every twenty minutes, by analyzing the situation with our partners,” Klimkin said.
