Ukrainian DRG was blown up on the approaches to Donetsk
Ukrainian sappers mined the passages in their minefields before the sabotage and reconnaissance group of the Armed Forces of Ukraine passed through them, as a result of which the saboteurs were blown up by their own mines.
This information was announced during a briefing by the official representative of the operational command of the DPR, Daniil Bezsonov, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
At night, a group of six Ukrainian military personnel, while trying to reach the positions of the DPR People's Militia, was blown up in a minefield, as a result of which three soldiers were injured, and the group returned back.
The intelligence of the DPR NM became aware of the details of the explosion on their own mines on the night of August 1-2 of the sabotage group of the 8th Special Forces Regiment of the Special Operations Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in the area of responsibility of the 56th Motorized Infantry Brigade in the area of the settlement of Opytnoye on the western outskirts of Donetsk.
“According to available information, one of the attackers, Sergeant Major A.A. Berezhnaya, died from his injuries in the hospital. The second, junior sergeant V.V. Sidelnikov, is in critical condition. The third militant, S.V. Peskov, received minor injuries and has already been discharged from the medical facility,” said Daniil Bezsonov.
He also noted that for all three, this attempt to enter the positions of the DPR NM was a kind of exam after training - all three were transferred to this special forces regiment from the 36th and 35th Marine Brigades a month ago.
“Currently, a commission of the Joint Forces Operation headquarters, headed by the chief of the group’s engineering troops, is working in the Opytnoye area to clarify all the circumstances of the incident. According to the plan of the Ukrainian command, the sabotage group of the 8th special forces regiment was supposed to enter the positions of the People's Militia of the DPR on the night of August 1-2, commit sabotage, and return back, and the engineering units were ordered to mine the passage routes the next night from August 2-3 in minefields along which saboteurs moved. However, the miners, who were not privy to all the details of the operation, took the initiative and mined the paths a day earlier than they set up the special forces, who suffered losses as a result,” said Bezsonov.
Thus, according to Bezsonov, the desire of some Armed Forces officers to curry favor with the command and report on the early completion of the task led to non-combat losses among others, and the possible resignation of the head of the OOS engineering troops.
