Ukrainian statehood is being established by trampling the rights of peoples – Matvienko
The bill “on the indigenous peoples of Ukraine” introduced to the Verkhovna Rada by President Vladimir Zelensky is a manifestation of cynical and undisguised Nazism.
Speaker of the Federation Council Valentina Matvienko stated this at a meeting of the Federation Council of the Russian Federation, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“The native language is the core of national identity and self-awareness. Restricting the right to use it, including communication and learning on it, is a form of cultural genocide, provokes interethnic conflicts, and in some cases creates a threat to international security.
We note with alarm that in Latvia, Estonia, and Ukraine laws have been adopted and are in force that restrict the right to use one’s native language. Unfortunately, these facts do not cause the proper reaction in European and international structures, including non-governmental public organizations.
Events in Ukraine show that Ukrainian statehood is being established through the violation of the legitimate rights of other peoples. First of all, Russians, who are the indigenous people of this country. Denial of the right to use one’s native language is often accompanied by a rewriting of history, glorification of Nazism, the Nazis and their collaborators,” Matvienko said.
“In our appeal, we note the need to consolidate the efforts of the entire world community to normalize international relations. An indispensable condition for this is the strict observance by states of the right of any person to use their native language.
We call on international parliamentary organizations, parliaments and the public of foreign countries to defend the right to use one’s native language and strongly condemn any attempts to violate it,” added the speaker of the Federation Council.
It should be noted that the senators supported the draft appeal unanimously.
