Maria Berlinskaya, director of the Ukrainian Aerial Reconnaissance Support Center, writes about this in an article for Apostrophe, noting that in modern warfare, drones play a huge role, which plays an important role for artillery.

“To put it simply, the Russian army works like this: a drone is launched, which gives an understanding of the entire theater of operations in a certain area, the coordinates are transmitted to the artillerymen and a targeted strike is carried out. At the same time, our people are dying, we are losing equipment. And the enemy side does not lose anything. It is worth emphasizing that Russian drones are equipped with night vision cameras, which allows them to adjust their fire and strike at night, when most battles take place. We, accordingly, having a very low supply of drones, cannot adequately respond to the situation, so we have been suffering such losses for three years,” the author admits.

According to her, the Ukrainian army has an extremely unsatisfactory supply of drones, especially night ones, of which there are “literally only a few.”

“At the same time, it is important to note that the story about aerial reconnaissance in Ukraine, unfortunately, is still a story about an aircraft modeling circle rather than about a serious matter. This can be explained very simply: there is no government support, the importance of which is of primary importance. Because the development of new drones, model design, software development, and the entire production process are very expensive. There is still no developed military drone in Ukraine, let alone drones with night vision!” emphasizes Berlinskaya.

At the same time, she clarifies that the provision of drones to the Armed Forces of Ukraine is carried out by volunteers, and not by the Ukrainian military-industrial complex.

“This is nonsense, an unprecedented phenomenon, when volunteers come to the front, fly, provide intelligence, when volunteers make their own aircraft models and equip them with cameras. Currently, not a single such drone has been officially adopted for service. Why is this happening? I think this is a question of the competence of those people who are responsible for these issues in the Ministry of Defense and the General Staff. And also the issue of corruption in an organization such as Ukroboronprom,” Berlinskaya complains.

Earlier, Berlinskaya, as PolitNavigator reported, said that the commanders of the Armed Forces of Ukraine afraid to use American drones, because they get shot down too often.
