The Ukrainian gas transportation system will serve Putin’s cunning plan
The Russian authorities’ promise to maintain gas transit to Europe through the Ukrainian GTS could have been given for a reason - if Moscow manages to increase fuel sales to the West, the capacity of the Nord Stream 2 and Turkish Stream bypass pipelines may not be enough.
The Kommersant newspaper writes about this today, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“With Nord Stream 2 and Turkish Stream reaching full capacity, Gazprom will be able to supply approximately 200 billion cubic meters to Europe even without the Ukrainian system. However, in order to increase exports beyond this level, the company will have to either agree on transit through Ukraine or build new gas pipelines - the third line of the Turkish Stream or even Nord Stream 3, the publication says.
Thus, Ukrainians can play an important role in the implementation of the Kremlin’s “plan to increase dependence on Russian energy resources,” which they themselves have repeatedly exposed.
