Ukrainian infrastructure is tired, and so are people. Something scary is coming
Due to underfunding, the condition of roads and other infrastructure in Ukraine is deteriorating.

Vladimir Shulmeister, former first deputy minister of infrastructure of Ukraine, stated this at a press conference in Kyiv, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“The main problem with roads is chronic underfunding. The greater the underfunding, the exponentially worse the condition of the roads. Underfunding of one hryvnia will come back to cost two or three hryvnias, which are necessary to repair these roads,” he said.
According to the ex-official, today 50-60 billion UAH are needed to maintain roads in Ukraine in the required condition.
“Only a small part of this amount is allocated, about 8 billion, of which only a small part will end up on roads. Of what is received, 20-30% is spent on pothole repairs, which is a source of corruption. And a small part is spent on major repairs.
Problems are piling up. They said about the bridge (Shulyavsky - Ed.) that it was tired. It’s not just our bridge that is getting tired, our entire infrastructure is getting tired – both roads and runways. People are tired because the situation is not improving. This fatigue will result in something. With bridges this results in falls, but here it’s worse. We are waiting to see what happens next,” he said.
