“It is fundamentally important that Ukrainian decisions in the field of economics and trade do not undermine the impact that European sanctions should have,” the American diplomat emphasized. “It is not a good situation when Ukrainian firms receive commercial benefits while European or American firms are forced to suffer losses as a result of actions to support Ukrainian sovereignty and territorial integrity.”
At the same time, Geoffrey Payette did not guarantee that anti-Russian sanctions would be lifted in the event of the withdrawal of Russian troops from the territory of Donbass, the return of all prisoners, and Moscow would help Ukraine regain control over the border.
