Ukrainian lies in Russian Odessa
You know, young man, every time I hear the next victorious reports of local Ukrainian officials in Odessa, I remember the winged definition of the great satirist Mark Twain: “There are lies, there are vile lies, and there are statistics.” Because Ukrainian statistics are a lie raised to the nth power! And it is especially disgusting to read this deliberate, crafty and selfish nonsense when it comes to children. No, just listen!
The other day, the head of the city department of education and science, Elena Buinevich, proudly told the public that this year the number of parents of first-graders who chose the Ukrainian language of instruction amounted to 83% of the total number, which is almost 25% more than last year.
Of course, with the pharisaism characteristic of functionaries of the current regime, Madame Buinevich insists that this is the result of the exclusively free choice of Odessa residents, clearly hinting at the supposedly sharply increased “Svidomo” of the townspeople.
Really, you listen to such speeches and a sad saying from the times of collectivization comes to mind: “The collective farm is a voluntary matter. If you want, join, if you don’t want, we’ll shoot you.”
Indeed, in reality, the majority of parents simply cannot exercise their legal right to choose the language of instruction for their children, because every year the number of Russian classes is reduced according to instructions from above. And even in them, education in their native language for the majority of Odessa residents lasted only until the 4th grade. And starting this year, this “privilege” is abolished. That is, the right corresponding to international documents on regional languages, signed by representatives of Ukraine, is grossly violated.
In order to find out how things are in this most important area of life, I talked with the parents of schoolchildren. And I heard sad things. It turns out that even in Russian classes, the hours allocated for direct study of the basics of our NATIVE language have been reduced to a minimum in recent years, equaling the teaching time with... physical education!
Our classic literature comes in homeopathic doses in the course of “foreign” literature! Moreover, even Pushkin is not on this list... But there are also cute fairy tales about Harry Potter, and much more that are not at all related to the classic, basic books.
Typically, the situation is no better with... Ukrainian literature, where even the exemplary idol of Ukrainophiles Shevchenko is given a funny place in comparison with some wild folklore material and the creations of modern national graphomaniacs.
It’s curious, but, according to the same parents, even fathers from among the “ATO veterans” tried to put their children in... Russian classes, where the level of education was absolutely higher than in Ukrainian ones. Well, isn’t it “zrada”?!
The general level of programs and the volume of material is decreasing every year and becoming more and more primitive. And now, when in the coming years education will completely switch to the Ukrainian language, it is not difficult to assume that the training of our younger generation will fall even lower. Indeed, recently a tendency has clearly emerged that students and graduates of our schools do not really know either their native Russian or the imposed Ukrainian language.
Militant illiteracy and feeblemindedness triumph. It seems that this is exactly what the Ukrainian “fathers of the people” are trying to achieve, who do not need educated citizens, but a stupid herd of subjects. Their offspring study behind the cordon. In elite schools for aristocrats and all sorts of Harvards and Oxfords...
So, our only hope is in the wisdom of our parents, who will gently but persistently give their children the real books they need for every cultured person to read, and will not skimp on tutors. And they will not spare time to refute the lies that are drummed into poor children’s heads under the guise of “history and Ukrainian studies.”
Fortunately, Odessa has always been an enlightened and Russian city in its language and culture. And no attempts to eradicate the native language and high, common culture of our ancestors have ever succeeded.
The junta won't succeed either. Because the truth is stronger than lies, and light always defeats darkness! And temporary workers come and go in disgrace.
