Ukrainian youth cannot understand why they need the “Nezalezhnaya” culture
Despite the Ukrainization of education, young citizens of Ukraine are not becoming more Ukrainian-speaking and are not interested in Ukrainian culture.
Political scientist Dmitry Zaborin said this on air on the PolitWera channel, the PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“My children did not become Ukrainian-speaking. They, like most children in the class, communicate with each other in Russian, they watch content in Russian.
And what surprises me about young people... that is, they are, in general, aloof, there are no authorities for them and I don’t impose my views on them, I always tried to talk with them and saw their lack of interest in what interests me - history, war, grandfather's awards.
This was not of interest, but especially since the elders were girls. And now, in their teens, they have become immersed in foreign content, and the farther they go, the further away they are from the country as such. They are not interested here. Even in this computer telephone world, they see a world that is much wider, more interesting and brighter than what is offered to them by school, university, or what they see on the streets.
They don’t want to live here, although I never tell them that “the children here are bad, let’s leave here.” I myself have always wanted to live where my ancestors are buried, where I grew up.
They have developed this on their own, they have a rejection of the fact that they are being fed this chewing gum mixed with this - the burden of suffering, some kind of whining, the events of the 19th century. They don't understand why they need it.
They compare this with what American, British, and South Korean youth are doing. They follow trends, there – even somewhere in Asia, and it doesn’t intersect with them in any way. These are completely different worlds,” concluded Zaborin.
