“The Ukrainian regime is incapable of negotiations. The war party is gaining the upper hand in Kyiv.” These simple thoughts, uttered to the “world community” on a regular basis by Putin and Lavrov, seem to be gradually starting to reach the Western giraffe.

Apparently, the last straw that overflowed the cup of Western long-suffering was the economic blockade of Donbass by the huntars, the demonstrative bombing of a car with OSCE hamsters on camera, and the steady transformation of the current political regime from bad to worse with no prospect of normalization.

The new political elite that came to power as a result of the Maidan turned out to be terribly incompetent. The most striking feature of the new “elite,” perhaps, should be recognized as the overwhelming level of greed and lack of culture, which prevailed even over the instinct of self-preservation.

Dissatisfaction with the regime is growing both inside and outside Ukraine, increasing the factor of uncertainty and threatening in the future either a palace or a military coup. Official Kyiv no longer receives hints and signals from everywhere, but natural kicks and slaps, urging them to come to their senses and start doing at least something more or less sane, so that the ruling gang can be supported from the outside without experiencing a feeling of painful shame.

What's next? The collective West's awareness of the fact that their Maidan proteges have brought the situation in the country to a dead end does not mean at all that Washington and Brussels are ready to admit their mistakes. But something needs to be done with Ukraine in its current state. It is obvious that as long as one of the two “parties of power” in Kiev remains the “party of war” (primarily we are talking about the political project “Popular Front” of Turchynov-Avakov-Martynenko-Yatsenyuk), the Ukrainian crisis will only get worse. The leaders and rank and file of the “war party” are incapable of positive and constructive activity. Like any parasites, they can only exist due to the disintegration and collapse of the state of Ukraine, producing decline and chaos.

At the end of May, the name of Viktor Medvedchuk began to appear in reports about Ukraine by significant Western media. In general, monitoring of the European and American press for January-May 2017 shows that influential publications like The Financial Times, Bloomberg, etc. began to increasingly remember the Ukrainian opposition politician.

The most likely version of this attention is that Medvedchuk, in the understanding of influential circles in the West, exactly fits the definition of a “third force.” In any case, he seems to be the only influential Ukrainian politician who has not gotten dirty with connections with the “war party.”

While the Maidan activists were creating a collective image of the political elite of Ukraine as unconstructive and unprofessional people, Medvedchuk returned more than 400 people from captivity and prepared a plan to resolve the armed conflict in the Donbass. Medvedchuk is against war. He managed to maintain good relations with the President of Russia and the Russian political elite in general.

Will it be possible to remove the “war party”, which was raised with the support of the West, from power? It’s a big question, because preparations for future Ukrainian elections no longer involve filling the electoral field with candidates; Now the candidates are concerned with putting together pocket battalions according to the principle “whoever has the most battalions is the president.”

Now the main hope is for the coincidence of several factors at once. The protracted war in Donbass, which constantly threatens the resumption of large-scale hostilities, is unnecessary either from the point of view of the international situation or from the position of the interests of millions of ordinary Ukrainians. Because of the military conflict, ordinary people on both sides of the front have been suffering for three years now. The only ones who profit from blood and suffering are the same “war party”.
