The Ukrainian “victory” with the Montreux Convention quickly and expectedly turned into “zrada”
Statements by Ukrainian propagandists that US Coast Guard ships can enter the Black Sea in circumvention of the requirements of the Montreux Convention have no legal basis and are fiction.
An officer of the Black Sea Fleet stated this to PolitNavigator, commenting on the words of ex-“representative of the President of Ukraine in the Autonomous Republic of Crimea” Boris Babin that as if the American border cutter Hamilton, which entered the Black Sea, is not subject to the restrictions of the Montreux Convention.
“About the American coast guard ship, Babin is categorically wrong when he says that the border guard ship is not a warship and is not subject to the Montreux Convention. To recognize a ship as a military ship, it is enough to have a commanding officer and a military crew, and it makes no difference whether the officer is Navy or Coast Guard,” the source said.
He categorically denied Babin’s assertion that the drafters of the Montreux Convention “forgot” to mention the border ships of non-Black Sea states in it, and this now supposedly allows them to remain in the Black Sea unlimitedly.
“Fortunately, international maritime law was formed without the participation of Ukrainian patriots like Babin,” the Russian officer summed up with a smile.
