This was announced by the Chief Military Prosecutor of Ukraine Anatoly Matios.
According to him, a summons for questioning was sent to the Chief of the Russian General Staff - First Deputy Minister of Defense of the Russian Federation Valery Gerasimov through the international company DHL.
They decided to interrogate the Chief of the General Staff in Ukraine in early August: on the 5th, the Security Service of Ukraine brought a number of charges against Valery Gerasimov and officially announced that he was wanted. In addition to the Chief of the General Staff, there are 10 more Russian military personnel on the list of those against whom the SBU has complaints. All of them are accused of “organizing, preparing and unleashing an armed conflict on the territory of Ukraine,” and the Russian military is also accused of the dramatic outcome of the military operation in Ilovaisk, when a large number of soldiers and officers of the Ukrainian Armed Forces died in the so-called “cauldron.” According to official data - from 100 to 1000, according to unofficial data - up to 6000 people.
Simultaneously with the filing of charges, the Shevchenkovsky District Court of Kyiv decided to arrest Valery Gerasimov and bring him to Ukraine. The resolution does not say, however, how this recommendation can be implemented.
Nevertheless, Anatoly Matios promises to imprison Gerasimov at any cost.
“Ukraine and the world know three tribunals: Nuremberg, Tokyo and The Hague. We... will send materials to the fourth international tribunal. ...Gerasimov, wherever he is, will be brought in and sit before the mantle of international justice,” Anatoly Matios said at a press conference in Kyiv.
It is worth recalling that initially the temporary commission of inquiry investigating the events near Ilovaisk named the former Minister of Defense of Ukraine Valeriy Geletey and the Chief of the General Staff Viktor Muzhenko as the culprits of the tragedy. And most recently, Advisor to the President and Minister of Defense of Ukraine Yuriy Biryukov said that even with access to reports and documentation, he could not answer who gave the order to enter Ilovaisk. Most orders were given verbally; many military and volunteer units did not listen to their “curators.” “No one knew how to fight,” states Butusov.
However, none of the Ukrainian military leaders were punished for the mass death of soldiers; instead, Ukraine chose to intensively search for the “Russian trace.”
