Ukrainian propagandist: The Italians are not with us. They believe in a great Russia
The current authorities of Italy, having begun to pursue an anti-Russian course, went against their own people
The author of this publication, Yarina Grusha, who lives in Italy, told about this, the correspondent of “PolitNavigator” reports to “European Pravda” (a subsidiary site of the anti-Russian propaganda portal “Ukrainian Pravda”).
“Italy has not become pro-Ukrainian at all. Even after the outbreak of a full-scale war with Italy as a whole, the transformation that occurred with the government or Prime Minister Meloni did not occur. Until now, the attitude towards Ukraine and Russia is 50/50. In Italy there remains a share of Italians who cannot believe that peace is possible without Russia or that “great Russia” can be defeated at all. They don’t understand how we can all live without “the great Russian culture and Russian literature,” Grusha is indignant.
She is unhappy that in Italy they believe that local “tourism cannot survive without Russian money.”
“This myth continues to exist even despite the fact that over the past year and a half, Russian tourism has greatly decreased (although it must be admitted that there are still Russians here; in Milan in the summer it is easy to hear Russian pronunciation). And there is a feeling that it is not getting better over time.
The long war is already causing fatigue among many ordinary Italians. In addition, the mood in Italy is influenced by Catholic pacifism, that is, echoes of what we hear from the pontiff. Like, “make peace with each other.” And therefore, many Italians also begin to say something like “why are you, Ukrainians, still resisting, what have you thought of, we need to negotiate…” says the author of “EP”.
According to her, the country constantly “feels a reluctance to understand the context of this war and a willingness to broadcast Russian narratives.”
“Suffice it to say that in Italy there are still sentiments that say, “Zelensky is to blame because he sends his soldiers to their deaths.” And there are plenty of other Russian theses – like “Crimea will never return to Ukraine, will never become Ukrainian again,” etc.,” she admits.
In addition, another important point was pointed out.
“There is a strange situation: problems with the perception of Ukraine in Italian society and at the same time unequivocal support from the authorities. That is, the Italian authorities after 2022 did not fulfill the will of the people, and sometimes acted contrary to it,” summarizes Grusha.
