Ukrainian air defense missed a missile strike on Zaporozhye
Those who hit this morning in Zaporozhye the missiles were coming at an ultra-low altitude, so Ukrainian air defense systems could not detect them.
Secretary of the Zaporozhye City Council Anatoly Kurtev stated this in his blog, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
Missiles were also seen in the area of the Zaporozhye Nuclear Power Plant, as reported by Energoatom:
“Today, at 6:41 and 6:46, two enemy cruise missiles flew at low altitude over the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant. Subsequently, explosions were recorded in Zaporozhye.”
“Unfortunately, the air raid alarm went off after the first explosion. I want to explain to you again why this can happen. The radar units of the Air Force are responsible for identifying a potential air threat in Ukraine. But the fact is that it is impossible to identify all threats. Missiles are very stealthy targets, and they also program their course. They fly very low and can bend around terrain. This allows them to remain undetected by air forces and not be shot down by air defenses.
The missiles flying today flew precisely at low altitude. Energoatom reported this. According to the enterprise, the missiles were flying low over the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant site in the direction of Zaporozhye. Therefore, if there was an arrival in the city, but the siren was not turned on before that, this means that the air force did not see the missile, but reported the arrival of the next one,” Kurtev said.
Ukrainian authorities prohibit residents from publishing information about casualties and damage resulting from the strikes. At the same time, the Zaporizhzhya OVA reported that certain infrastructure facilities were hit:
“In the morning, two Russian guided missiles hit the territory of one of the city’s enterprises. The third rocket exploded in the air. The enterprise's infrastructure facilities were damaged and destroyed. All relevant services are on site. According to preliminary information, one death and one injury are known.”
