Ukrainian chainsaw massacre: Kvitashvili, to Yaresko’s joy, turned hospitals into scrap metal

By itself, the reduction of beds in Ukrainian hospitals will not lead to an improvement in the quality of medical services provided.

The president of the All-Ukrainian Council for the Protection of the Rights and Safety of Patients, Viktor Serdyuk, pointed out this problem during a press conference in Kyiv.

“The beds themselves do not increase or decrease,” the expert emphasized. – New technologies are emerging that lead to a decrease in the number of beds. And you can’t just take them and use them for scrap metal, as [former health minister] Kvitashvili did, and sell these armored beds and make money on scrap metal. I calculated that if a hospital with 600 beds was liquidated, then approximately 20 thousand hryvnia could be earned on beds and batteries. But what about health workers? It will again be a kind of “Ukrainian Chainsaw Massacre” – blockbuster number five.”

“At one time, [Finance Minister] Yaresko praised Kvitashvili for being the only minister who did not ask for an increase in healthcare funding,” Serdyuk noted. – And the reduction by 2,5 billion was justified like this: you have fewer beds, you don’t need more. If we cut beds, the next finance minister will praise the next minister.”
