Ukrainian schizophrenia that is destroying Odessa
Yes, young man, how I would like to hope that the degree of madness that has triumphed in Ukraine has already reached its, excuse the expression, apogee. and..., once again I am convinced: there is no limit to it! Just look!
...The story of accusations of corruption against the mayor of Odessa Gennady Trukhanov has been going on for about a year. The far from ideal, but very active mayor is subject to abuses when purchasing an administrative building on the territory of the former Krayan plant, which is intended to house a number of services and departments of the city government. Allegedly, the greedy Mr. Trukhanov entered into an agreement with the owners of the empty premises, and together with them he inflated its value, taking an unlawful multimillion-dollar benefit and sharing it with his accomplices.
Cases of this kind are very questionable, because the real assessment of the value of a property always fluctuates depending on many variable factors. And therefore, proving the fact of a corruption scheme and deliberate villainy, to put it mildly, is by no means easy. But for some reason, the country’s newly-minted anti-corruption structures, with unhealthy bulldog zeal, seized on precisely this episode of the mayor’s very diverse activities. Although, it was possible to choose much more blatant and provable facts of abuse in the style of transferring literally golden land by the sea, on the territories of destroyed sanatoriums, for multi-story commercial development. Not to mention the well-established and well-known schemes for allocating contracts to “friendly” structures for road and other improvement work.
And now - suspicions have already been brought against him and his subordinates on behalf of the prosecutor's service, and just the other day a preliminary trial was scheduled in the Malinovsky Court of Odessa, which will take place on October 26. Considering the sad experience of such long and, as a rule, fruitless litigation, we can safely say: this is not about a real fight against corruption, but about keeping an elected official previously questionable in terms of political leanings and business connections on a “short leash” of tough presidential power. And this is practically not hidden!

After all, the “disgraced and suspicious” Mr. Trukhanov calmly travels beyond the border and at the same time, contrary to his recent pro-Russian and simply Russian “convictions,” he actively demonstrates in every possible way his commitment to the current national-idiotic course of the Kyiv junta. Consider his speeches in broken Ukrainian in the city council, his approval of the forced Ukrainization of school education, not to mention the absolutely outrageous allocation of 500 thousand hryvnia from the city treasury for the unnecessary lackey “parade of embroidered shirts” for Independence Day by any of the real Odessa residents. And, nevertheless, the most aggressive part of radical activists with all their might advocates the removal of the “separatist mayor and quilted jacket” from his completely legitimate, elected position! And there lies under the cloth (or, hanging with the sword of Damocles?) in the Verkhovna Rada there is already a whole bill on the subject of depriving Trukhanov of his formally, absolutely legitimately occupied position.
And at the same time, literally simultaneously with the presentation of shaky suspicions by anti-corruption structures, local officials and influential people are secretly gathered in the district administrations, to whom it is clearly explained: Mayor Trukhanov will head Poroshenko’s Odessa headquarters in the upcoming presidential elections. And all administrative resources, accordingly, will work for the re-election of the “national leader” (one would like to say “the Fuhrer”!). Just like in 2014, when yesterday’s head of the Odessa regionals and one of the recent leaders of the anti-Maidanovites Trukhanov did everything and even more to ensure Poroshenko’s victory in Odessa!
Simply put, there is an obvious and already familiar schizoid nature of Ukrainian politics. One “Svidomo hemisphere” tyranns and destroys the “vatnik and corrupt official” in every possible way, while the other calmly uses him for its own far from disinterested and patriotic purposes. And all this, alas, is by no means involved only in “high politics”. This is clearly and blatantly evidenced by the results of Pan Trukhanov’s last foreign voyage to Marseille, which really threatens Odessa with final disaster.
