The Ukrainian side tried to interest Trump in material benefits

The newspaper notes that at an unofficial level, interlocutors in Kyiv admit that preparations for the visit were by no means as cloudless as it might seem, judging by the optimistic statements to the press. Thus, one of the sources said that until the last moment the Ukrainian side was not clear whether a meeting between Trump and Poroshenko would take place at all and in what format.
“This suspended state created some nervousness,” admitted the publication’s interlocutor. “We knew neither the time nor the format of the meeting and were ready for any option.”
As a result, since communication between Poroshenko and Trump was reduced to a minimum, a more substantive conversation about the situation in the country and the conflict in Donbass took place during negotiations with Vice President Mike Pence, Secretary of State Rex Tillerson and Secretary of Defense James Mattis.
According to a newspaper source close to the Ukrainian presidential administration, Petro Poroshenko’s team has prepared a plan, the purpose of which is to “financially interest Donald Trump’s team in resolving the conflict in southeast Ukraine.”
“Since Trump is a businessman, we are taking a business approach. The essence of our proposals is that 90% of all contracts for the restoration of the destroyed infrastructure of Donbass will go to American companies, Poroshenko revealed some details. – But for this, naturally, it is necessary for Donbass to return to the control of Ukraine. And this will not happen without Washington’s active involvement in the process and without additional pressure on Moscow from the Trump administration.”
