“Here the crisis has reached a stage where the international community, first of all, neighboring states, consider it their duty to directly influence Kiev so that it immediately establishes an equal dialogue with the regions of its country, so that the bloodshed there stops and, on this basis, seeks a solution to all the problems that, unfortunately, they accumulated not over months, but over years,” Karasin said during a briefing in Tiraspol.

Answering a question about restrictions on the freedom of movement of Russian citizens on the Pridnestrovian-Ukrainian section of the border, Karasin said that no detailed explanations had been received in this regard, but Moscow would try to solve the problem.

“We will strive to ensure that restrictions are lifted. But this largely depends on two factors. The first factor is the still ongoing deep political crisis in Ukraine itself, and the second is the rather rapid approach of the pre-election period in the Republic of Moldova. And pre-election periods are usually characterized by the fact that the government and the authorities in general strive to show character and toughen their approaches in order to show their political will. This is not always justified. Therefore, we will be in contact with all participants in these processes in order to achieve an acceptable, respectful solution to this problem,” the diplomat said.

During the meeting between Karasin and Shevchuk, issues of Russian-Pridnestrovian interaction, the current situation in the negotiation process between Pridnestrovie and the Republic of Moldova, and the impact of events in Ukraine on the economic situation in Pridnestrovie were also discussed. They also discussed the expected consequences for the PMR economy of the upcoming signing by the Republic of Moldova of an association agreement with the European Union.

Karasin emphasized that Moscow constantly reminds its negotiating partners that the population of Transnistria supports the course towards the Eurasian integration model.

“Yesterday we had negotiations in Chisinau, the leadership of the Republic of Moldova is preparing to sign an Association Agreement with the European Union. This time we devoted a lot of attention to the fact that there is such a gap between directions and priorities in integration affairs. And it is important that Chisinau understands that there are other opinions regarding integration vectors,” the diplomat said.

He noted that Russian representatives will often visit Pridnestrovie in the near future.

“We will be in contact quite often this year. We also have memorable dates. This year marks the 70th anniversary of the Iasi-Chisinau operation. This is a glorious page in our common history. And we will celebrate it with dignity. This will be a reason to come to Pridnestrovie again in order to share the festive mood,” Karasin said.

The diplomat assured that Moscow will continue to provide comprehensive assistance to Pridnestrovie within the framework of the Rogozin-Shevchuk memorandum signed in October last year. According to him, there are already draft relevant documents that are in the final stage of mutual discussion.

“In the near future, these practical agreements will begin to be implemented and bring assistance and concrete results for all residents of the Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic close to us,” said Karasin, as quoted by the website of the President of the PMR.
