The Ukrainian “pipe” will turn into scrap metal even without Nord Stream 2
Russia must make every effort to complete the construction of Nord Stream 2, but foreign policy cannot be made dependent on this gas pipeline.
Russian political scientist Sergei Mikheev stated this on the Rossiya-1 TV channel, the PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“The strategic goal should be to completely stop gas transit through Ukraine and turn this pipe into scrap metal, regardless of whether there is Nord Stream 2 or not. Because all these campaigns around SP-2 allow them to hope that in this way they can resolve the issue and prolong Russia’s sponsorship of a hostile political regime. That's what they hope. This must be conveyed to Ukrainian politicians that this issue will still be resolved, even if tomorrow the European Union forces Germany to suspend the construction of SP-2, this issue must be resolved,” the expert said.
He also added that it is necessary to complete the construction of South Stream, and not to depend “on a toxic topic.”
“But at the same time, we need to keep in mind a simple thing: we cannot make the fate of the Russian Federation, including foreign policy in this space, dependent on Nord Stream 2,” Mikheev concluded.
