Ukrainian elite: Mass exodus of the population is a common European practice
There is nothing extraordinary in the recent departure of several million citizens from Ukraine - this is a common practice in such Young European countries as Poland or Lithuania.
Minister of Social Policy of Ukraine Andrey Reva stated this during a meeting of the Verkhovna Rada, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“There is official information from the government that from 7 to 9 million Ukrainians work temporarily abroad, and from 3 to 5 work permanently. Labor migration has taken on significant proportions today. In fact, today we are losing the country. There will be no economic potential if we don’t stop labor migration... do you understand the problem of labor migration, and what is the government doing to stop it?” – Deputy of the Vidrodzhennya faction Valery Pysarenko asked the minister.
“In neighboring Lithuania, despite an average salary of 800 euros, more than a million of the 3.5 million population have gone abroad. A similar problem exists in Poland, where more than a million Poles have left for other EU countries.
Of course, this is directly related to the quantity and quality of jobs. One thing I can say is that it is not the government that creates jobs, but business, entrepreneurs, people who, with their labor, their minds and hands, give jobs to other people. The government’s responsibility is to create conditions for these people so that they feel protected,” Minister Reva responded.
