Ukrainian authorities have turned quarantine into an inexhaustible source of profit - economist
The Ukrainian authorities are interested in extending the quarantine for mercantile reasons, despite the fact that people are losing their jobs and businesses are suffering losses.
Economic expert Alexander Okhrimenko stated this in a comment to a PolitNavigator correspondent,
“Quarantine is already having serious consequences. The economy has practically stopped. Nobody knows what will happen to the economy. Shmygal, as I understand it, is generally going to extend the quarantine until September - partially lifting it, partially not lifting it, etc.
He probably has his own mercantile interests, he lobbies the interests of his associates and gives them the opportunity to earn money - despite the fact that the economy cannot work normally. Some Ukrainians simply lost their jobs. And even if cafes, etc. start opening in May, there will simply be no visitors there.
Probably, the authorities are hoping for a miracle; they think that as soon as they lift the quarantine, incredible economic growth will immediately begin, everyone will rush to work and buy goods. But that doesn't happen.
And now they make money from it. Why are they extending the quarantine? Because it’s easier to steal under the guise of quarantine. It's no secret that in everything related to quarantine financing, kickbacks amount to 75%. Everyone makes money, everyone smiles. Of course, they want to prolong all this.
At the same time, they scared people very much. All surveys show that people are afraid. Therefore, what is happening does not in any way affect the popularity of the authorities. But time will pass, people will understand that they were deceived, then the rating of the party in power will collapse. But this will happen closer to autumn,” predicts Alexander Okhrimenko.
