The Ukrainian authorities, without meaning to, have shown that a coup in the country is possible
By accusing Verkhovna Rada deputy Nadezhda Savchenko of attempting a coup, the authorities thereby pushed the boundaries of acceptable actions.
Ruslan Bortnik, director of the Ukrainian Institute for Policy Management Analysis, said this at a press conference in Kyiv, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
According to the expert, the authorities made a mistake by not taking into account Savchenko’s character and psychotype, hoping that she would not return from her last trip to Strasbourg, after which she could be safely declared an agent of the Kremlin or mentally ill.
“But Savchenko didn’t just return to the country. She raised the bar, raised the stakes and said yes, maybe I organized this because the community supports it. The result was a situation in which the authorities began to push the Overton window, the boundary of permissible action, with their own hands. The result was a situation in which the government, with its resources, began to promote the possibility of a coup in our country,” the political scientist emphasized.
