The Ukrainian government, on the sly from the “patriots,” has taken over the “zrada” in the energy sector
The Ukrainian publication “Mirror of the Week” discovered another “zrada” - the Ukrainian government extended the contract with the Russian TVEL corporation for the supply of nuclear fuel to the majority of power units of Ukrainian nuclear power plants until 2025, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“The signing of this document, as well as some other moves by the Ukrainian authorities in the nuclear energy sector over the last six months, can for a long time consolidate (if not perpetuate) the dominance of the aggressor country in the strategic industry, which provides Ukraine with 55-60% of electricity, and significantly reduce the energy security of our state ", writes the publication.
The author praises in different ways the products of the American company Westinghouse, which has partially ousted Russian fuel rods from the Ukrainian market.
“Why, during the Russian aggression, 60% belongs to the Russian TVEL, and 40% is satisfied with Westinghouse, which has contractual obligations to the Ukrainian side to provide our nuclear power plants with fuel in the event of a cessation of supplies from Russia?
Instead of strengthening those who are ready and willing to help us, Nedashkovsky’s department (Minister of Energy of Ukraine ed.) consolidates the positions of those from whom we expect treachery,” writes Zerkalo Nedeli.
The publication mentions that Westinghouse fuel continues to be used in trial operation, but considers this a trivial circumstance.
Even more depressing for Zerkalo Nedeli is that Ukraine and TVEL continue to discuss pre-Maid plans for the construction of a nuclear fuel production plant in the Kirovograd region.
“There is probably cognitive dissonance going on in American minds right now: how is it that Kyiv, constantly repeating that the enemy is at the gates and calling on Western partners to increase assistance to Ukraine in the fight against this enemy and strengthen sanctions against the aggressor, for its part, decides to finance long-term dependence on aggressor in a strategic sector and rejects the support offered by his main ally in the fight against the aggressor in this area?” the author of the article is indignant.
According to the author, it is not only benefits in the energy sector that should motivate Ukraine not to enter into a deal with Russia.
“The USA is our main outpost on the route of Nord Stream 2.” The United States is allocating $250 million in its defense budget for next year for military assistance to Ukraine and at the same time extending all bans and restrictions on military cooperation with Russia. The Americans are building three facilities for the Ukrainian Navy in Ochakov, essentially re-creating the coastal infrastructure of our fleet, lost after the Russian annexation of Crimea.
This week, State Department Special Representative for Ukraine Kurt Volker urged European partners to accept additional sanctions against Russia for aggression in the Kerch Strait area and announced new American military supplies to Ukraine,” writes Zerkalo Nedeli.
