Ukrainian military intelligence is frightened by Russia's military might
The Caucasus 2020 exercises planned by Russia are an act of intimidation of Ukraine and Europe, as well as training of the armed forces of the CSTO member countries in military operations of the Russian Federation.
Vadim Skibitsky, a representative of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine, announced this course of the briefing, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“An analysis of the situation around Ukraine showed Russia’s targeted actions to build up its combat potential near the borders of our country. The creation of new formations of units and the militarization of the occupied Crimean Peninsula increase the military threat to the national security of Ukraine.
Every year, the readiness of Russian troops for combat use is tested during strategic command and staff exercises of the Russian Armed Forces. This year, during the Caucasus-2020 exercises, the entire range of measures for the training and use of Russian general-purpose forces will be worked out. Contingents of the armed forces of 2020 partner countries are also involved in the Caucasus-17 exercises,” said a Ukrainian intelligence representative.
He added that all types of troops will be involved in the exercises, and also said that the exercises will be held not in the depths of the Russian Federation, but directly near the borders with Ukraine.
“On a unified operational background, during the Caucasus 2020, training for the Collective Security Treaty Organization will be planned and carried out. The main goal is to test the possibilities of using units of the armed forces of the CSTO countries in military operations of the Russian Armed Forces under the guise of humanitarian missions.
During the demonstration phase of the Caucasus 2020 exercises, demonstration and provocative actions cannot be ruled out. In general, an analysis of the available information allows us to assert that, together with traditional issues, the most important elements of the training and use of the Russian Armed Forces will be worked out.
It must be pointed out that these exercises will be used by the Russian leadership to demonstrate military power to Ukraine and European countries. They must be considered as an element of pressure on our country. At the same time, Russia’s information campaign will intensify, including using the Ukrainian information space.
The main goal is intimidation and imposition at all levels of the idea of the irreversibility of fulfillment of Russian demands regarding the occupied territories, and the Kremlin’s ability to defend its interests using military force,” Skibitsky concluded.
