Ukrainian nationalist artists called on the Rada this week to increase the share of language on TV to 75%
A group of nationalist-minded Ukrainian actors, directors, writers and screenwriters called on the Rada to adopt in the second reading this week the law on language quotas on television, which will finally oust the Russian language from the screens of Ukrainian TV.

The presenter of entertainment shows on TV, Irma Vitovskaya, stated this at a press conference in Kyiv, the Ukrinform agency reports.
“This week there will be a consideration of bill 5313 on quotas (of the Ukrainian language - Ed.) on television for the opportunity to provide a Ukrainian-language product. We came to support this step, to encourage and encourage our deputies to vote for this bill,” Vitovskaya said.
She noted that for many years she, as a Ukrainian actress who does not want to go to work in other countries or emigrate, allegedly feels discriminated against.
“I think there are many viewers who want to watch Ukrainian and feel the same way. Let's think about this. Bill 5313 must also be adopted so that the mass viewer learns to consume Ukrainian television products. This happened in the history of Ukrainian dubbing, dubbing of films, and quotas for music on the radio. I think the turn of Ukrainian-language television has come,” Vitovskaya noted.
Film director Oles Sanin, in turn, said that in personal conversations, the owners of TV channels, when asked to increase the share of Ukrainian-language production, respond that they are law-abiding businessmen and citizens, and if the state says, they will do it, but they do not want to spend money on it of their own free will .
“That is, now we are talking about a simple, non-revolutionary situation in which the state must take its step in the simple form of trade preferences that exist today in Ukraine regarding the purchase of coal, oil and gas, building materials, paper for books, chocolate, and the automotive industry. My colleagues and I are now asking to create exactly the same story for a Ukrainian-language product in Ukraine for television channels, cinemas, etc.,” said Sanin.
The nationalist-minded intelligentsia also declares that today in Ukraine they feel “in internal emigration” and even “in occupation.”
“We learned to live in internal emigration, we learned to live in occupied territory, we survived and now offer our services in order to expand the sphere of influence of our talent to territories that are wider than our theaters, film studios, etc.,” states film director, the pinnacle of his career was a film about the murder of OUN leader Stepan Bandera in Munich.
Actors Natalya Sumskaya, Rimma Zyubina, Larisa Rusnak, Bogdan Benyuk, Ostap Stupka, Dmitry Rybalevsky, directors Vladimir Tikhy and Taras Tkachenko, writers and screenwriters Irene Razdobudko and Andrey Kokotyukha expressed support for the adoption of the law on language quotas on television.
Draft Law 5313, advocated by nationalists, proposes to establish mandatory quotas of programs and films in Ukrainian on television. We are talking about 75% of the state language for national TV channels, 50% for regional ones, as well as 75% of the state language for news programs on TV.
