“Despite the fact that the Ukrainian side initiated the cessation of air traffic, the Federal Air Transport Agency received a letter from Atlasjet of Ukraine LLC with a request to open it during the 2015/2016 winter navigation season. flights on three routes: Kyiv - Moscow, Odessa - Moscow and Kyiv - St. Petersburg,” the department said in a statement.
With a similar request to open flights in the winter season 2015/2016. on the routes Kyiv - Moscow and Lvov - Moscow, UTair-Ukraine Airlines LLC applied.
The message notes that “the airline plans to obtain permission from the Federal Air Transport Agency, citing “long-standing family and socio-economic ties between citizens of Ukraine and Russia,” as well as the fact that “there is an urgent need to organize direct air service in the interests of citizens of the two countries.”
The Federal Air Transport Agency of the Russian Federation stated that “the pragmatic proposals of the Ukrainian airlines themselves should prevail over politicized decisions.”
The ban on air traffic to/from Ukraine will begin on October 25 this year. According to data reported by Gosavia of Ukraine, the sanctions will last for at least a year.
