Ukrainian prices are growing faster than incomes
The incomes of the majority of Ukrainian citizens do not keep pace with rising prices, and officials’ statements about an increase in average wages do not correspond to reality.
Chairman of the Association of Retail Chain Suppliers Alexey Doroshenko stated this at a press conference in Kyiv, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Our prices are growing faster than income – salaries, pensions, income from business activities. According to our calculations, only purchasing power for the minimum wage has not decreased over the past year. This year, purchasing power will continue to decline for most citizens. The minimum wage has increased less than in the last 4 years. The average salary will grow at a slower pace,” the expert said.
He also refuted the words of Prime Minister Volodymyr Groysman, who said that at the end of 2018, the average salary in the country is already more than 10 thousand hryvnia.
"Unfortunately, it is not. There are figures from the Pension Fund and state statistics. Government statistics are approximate and cover only 10% of the country's largest enterprises. And the Pension Fund data covers all enterprises. Just based on the results of 2018, it will be clear what our average salary is. But even the average salary growth in 2018 will be less than in the previous year. We also saw a smaller increase in pensions,” Doroshenko concluded.
