Ukrainian officials are perplexed: It seems that the gas is no longer Russian, but the population does not pay for it

Residents of the Volyn region only have enough money to pay for electricity; they are not able to pay for the gas they consume. The Governor of the Volyn region, Vladimir Gunchik, announced this at a meeting in the Cabinet of Ministers.

According to him, the state already owes subsidy recipients almost a billion hryvnia.

“The main problem today in the region is payment for consumed energy resources and gas by the population, which does not benefit from subsidies. In general, this is approximately 65% as of June 1, 2017... The paradoxical situation is that these same subscribers pay for electricity more than 90%. That is, there is a problem of pure gas.

The region used all its resources to pay for the benefits and subsidies provided - this is 900 million, and today the debt is about 1 billion,” said Hunchik.

Let us recall that earlier the Ukrainian authorities announced an almost complete cessation of gas purchases from Russia. Now overpaid fuel is purchased through European intermediaries, but formally Kyiv “does not sponsor the economy of the aggressor country.”
