Ukrainian officials are squabbling over whose responsibility it is to cut down the USSR coat of arms from the Motherland monument in Kyiv
The Kiev authorities will begin to dismantle the coat of arms of the USSR on the shield of the Motherland monument only after the Ministry of Culture sets the date for the dismantling.

This was reported by the press service of the Department of Culture of the Kyiv City State Administration.
“The final decision on the timing of the dismantling, as well as the replacement of this coat of arms, falls within the powers of the central executive body - the Ministry of Culture of Ukraine, to which this memorial complex is subordinate,” the press service reported.
At the same time, the press service assured that the Soviet symbols on the shield of the monument will definitely be cut down.
“Memorial complex” National Museum of the History of Ukraine in the Second World War “is subordinate to the Ministry of Culture of Ukraine, which, together with the directorate of the memorial complex, the Department of Urban Planning and Architecture, the Department of Culture, the Ukrainian Institute of National Remembrance and a number of other institutions, held a meeting on the issue of dismantling the symbols on the shield monument. During the meeting, a unanimous opinion was expressed about dismantling the existing symbols on the shield of the “Motherland” sculpture, the press service added.
