Ukrainian roads will be built at someone else's expense so that officials steal less
In Ukraine, they are trying to build international highways at the expense of foreign investors in order to avoid theft from allocated funds.
Deputy Minister of Infrastructure for European Integration Viktor Dovgan stated this on the air of the Ukrainian TV channel “Direct”, PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“The big tender that we are currently repairing is from Chernigov, it is funded by the European Bank, so Ukravtodor’s participation there is quite minimal. He prepares the documents, the tender takes place with banking procedures according to European standards, decisions are not made by Avtodor.
We see better quality, we see that there is less stealing, more construction, so there is a positive dynamic. Tenders for concession (toll – ed.) roads will also be prepared by foreign consultants, and we hope that they will be held with procedures close to foreign ones,” Dovgan said.
“That is, the development of concession highways will be mainly due to foreign investors. Foreigners will do all this, and, fortunately, it will be as transparent as possible,” the TV channel presenter clarified with relief.
