Ukrainian farmers will hold large-scale protests
Associations of farmers and private landowners intend to hold large-scale protests against the plans of the Ukrainian authorities to lift the moratorium on the sale of agricultural land.
The head of the association, Ivan Tomich, stated this at a press conference in Kyiv.

“They want to take away the land from Ukrainians. There is no talk of any land market,” is how he assesses the officials’ initiative.
“If there is no reaction from parliament, the government and the president, then in March, at the initiative of the Cherkasy and Poltava regions, we will hold actions in all regions. We have 423 district organizations. There are farmers in almost every village. We will conduct it in every regional center, on every interdistrict and interregional road. I think this will be a slightly different situation compared to the actions that were held.
We really don’t want this, but we need to realize the threat and danger with irreparable consequences that is very close to us,” says Tomic.
Earlier, economist Alexander Dudchak said that The opening of the Ukrainian land market is planned for the purchase of black soils by large Western corporations. Ukrainian farmers will be driven into debt.
“Farmers who have accumulated loans will no longer be able to pay off their debts. Local producers will not be able to withstand the price competition that large foreign corporations can afford. Mass seizure of land due to debts will begin.
For a short period of time, the owners of the land will not be farmers (after disintegration, only 5% of former collective farmers became farmers), but large latifundists and foreign corporations...
Farmers, at best, will turn into hired tenants. You can forget about competition. A narrow circle of owners does not imply competition and price reductions. And those who will work on what was once their land will no longer be able to say “product from the manufacturer.” Due to such an intermediary as a large land owner, the cost of products from a “domestic producer” will skyrocket. And import prices, after the destruction of competitors in the domestic market, will return to standard values,” Dudchak predicts.
