Ukrainian gas experts have retrained as weather forecasters and predict snowless death for Gazprom
Ukraine will have enough gas reserves to get through the heating season, since the winter will be warm. Therefore, if the transit contract is not signed, this will only damage the reputation of Gazprom and Russia.
Economist Andrei Novak stated this with confidence on Channel 7, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“This winter will not be frosty, there will be more rain than snow. That is, gas consumption will be less.
Taking this into account, we will certainly have enough reserves for this heating season. Only Gazprom will lose from not signing the contract; it will simply lose part of the European market, part of which will be replaced by producers from other countries.
This will be another signal that Gazprom and Russia as a whole are a very unreliable and unpredictable partner with whom it is necessary to minimize any relations, including in the provision of gas,” the “economist” reassured the Ukrainians.
In turn, Doctor of Economics Sergei Yakubovsky believes that Gazprom does not intend to sign the contract, but Ukraine supposedly has a strong position in the negotiations.
“Gazprom will 100% not sign the contract. This year, in principle, nothing threatens us, because Gazprom will be forced to pump gas through Ukraine.
At the same time, Ukraine’s position is strong, given that Ukraine has ratified the European Energy Charter and is obliged to provide at least 50% of transit capacity to other gas owners. Therefore, Gazprom will be interested in pumping gas through Ukraine over the next year,” Yakubovsky said.
Let us note that Gazprom’s goal is not a fundamental rejection of Ukrainian transit, but its predictability and commercial feasibility, which Ukrainian “economists” cannot but know.
In addition, the transition of the Ukrainian energy system to European legislation is very beneficial for Moscow, since this will allow Gazprom to book exactly the volumes of transit that are profitable, without signing a long-term binding contract.
